What is Joomla? Joomla is basically the building blocks of your companies extranet. It is a Contant Management System that expanded and customized through extensions. It is quite easy to install Joomla on Opensuse. Lets begin:

1. First install XAMPP, Joomla needs apache, mysql, and php to run and XAMPP is the quickest way to get these installed and working.

2. Now that we got XAMPP up and running, lets download Joomla the stable version: http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/111/263/Joomla_1.0.12-Stable-Full_Package.tar.gz

3. Now open a terminal and become su, create a directory under /opt/lampp/htdocs, call it joomla

su -
mkdir /opt/lampp/htdocs/joomla

4. Then still as root change directory to where the Joomla package is, then extract Joomla to the htdocs that is in /opt/lampp

tar -xvf Joomla_1.0.12-Stable-Full_Package.tar.gz -C /opt/lampp/htdocs/joomla

5. Now change the permissions to the joomla directory so it is writable.

chmod 777 /opt/lampp/htdocs/joomla

6. Open your web browser and go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin. Under Create new database type in joomla, and click Create

7. Now point your browser to http://localhost/joomla. This will take you to the installation check, click next accept the license and click next again.

8. Here fill in the information. mysql username 'root' password 'none' default, and database 'joomla', click next.

9. Now name your site, click next, then add your admin password for Joomla, click next and you should get a congratulations page. Before you go forward you need to do one more thing.

10. Delete the installation directory.

su -
rm /opt/lampp/htdocs/joomla/installation/ -R

You can now login as Administrator http://localhost/joomla/administrator/
